Mary Elizabeth Shanazu, age 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 22, 2013 after a long illness. Born in Bridgeport on June 16, 1922 to Theodore and Angelina Nastu Giambazi, Mary attended Bridgeport schools and then worked at the Bryant Electric Company and later the Bead Chain Manufacturing Company for many years until her retirement. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Thomas G. Shanazu with whom she enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner and to the casinos and especially hosting gatherings of family and friends in their home. She loved to go shopping, to dance and to cook and bake (no one left Mary’s table hungry). Left to honor Mary’s memory are her children, her grandchildren, her great-granddaughters, her siblings James Giambazi and his wife Katherine of Bridgeport and Elizabeth Vanghele of Fairfield and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her devoted husband, Mary was predeceased by her sisters Louise Giambazi Lazar, Florence Giambazi and Margaret Giambazi. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 am in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3-6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice . Mary’s family offers sincere thanks to Dr. Pasquale Masone for his compassionate care throughout Mary’s illness and also to the staff of Vitas entrusted with Mary’s care for their support.
